USO DE COADJUVANTES À HIGIENE ORAL CONVENCIONAL EM MANUTENÇÃO PERIODONTAL – UMA ATUALIZAÇÃO
Recentemente, foi publicado no Journal of Periodontology um estudo prospectivo investigando a influência de coadjuvantes, associados a higiene oral convencional, na recorrência de periodontite durante a terapia de manutenção periodontal. Este foi o primeiro estudo prospectivo publicado abordando o tema. O trabalho mostra que a periodontite recorrente foi maior naqueles indivíduos que utilizam apenas escova manual e fio dental, comparada àqueles que associaram também as escovas interdentais ou irrigador oral na sua rotina de higiene oral. Dessa forma, o objetivo deste capítulo é abordar criticamente, em forma de comentário, o assunto.

Abstract:
A prospective study investigating the influence of adjuvants associated with conventional oral hygiene on the recurrence of periodontitis during periodontal maintenance therapy was recently published in the Journal of Periodontology. It was the first prospective study published addressing the topic. The study shows that recurrence of periodontitis was higher in those individuals who used only manual tooth brushes and dental floss, compared to those who also associated interdental brushes or oral irrigators in their oral hygiene routine. Thus, the purpose of this chapter is to critically address, by the means of a commentary, the subject.
