Abstract: Acne vulgaris is one of the most frequent dermatological disorders, being considered the most common condition observed by specialists. It occurs due to inflammation of the sebaceous glands, causing excessive sebum formation. Originally from Central Asia, cannabis is a plant that adapts easily to different regions, climate, soil and altitude. It is a plant that has been cultivated for millennia for various purposes, from a textile fiber source to fuel production. It has three types of different species, Cannabis indica, Cannabis ruderalis and the best known, Cannabis sativa. As acne is an inflammatory disorder, the study of cannabis aims to verify its usefulness in the treatment of this disorder. As its endocannabinoids have anti-inflammatory activity, cannabia demonstrates as a mechanism of action in the treatment of acne the suppression of the induction of inflammatory enzymes, the reduction of cytokine secretion and the inhibition of phosphorylation of NF-kB and MAC kinases. This work consisted of a review on the use of cannabis and its derivatives in the treatment of acne vulgaris.
