Uso da própolis na aquacultura de peixes de água doce

• Abstract: Fish farming is currently a growing aquaculture activity, in addition to being an excellent income opportunity for rural producers. Among the native species of freshwater fish, the yellowtail lambari (Astyanax altiparanae) is an excellent alternative for breeding, as it has accelerated growth and a fast production cycle when compared to other species. In Brazil, several studies have been carried out on freshwater fish feed, especially using natural substances. In this line, propolis is a resinous and balsamic compound, containing antimicrobial, immunostimulant and antioxidant properties, being an excellent alternative for use as a fish feed supplement. In this chapter, we present zootechnical characteristics of the yellow-tailed lambari, as well as the main properties of propolis and its use in aquaculture.
