USO DA CITOPATOLOGIA PARA O DIAGNÓSTICO DE TUMORES DE PELE EM ANIMAIS DOMÉSTICOS
Os tumores da pele e tecido subcutâneo são comumente observados na clínica de pequenos animais. O diagnóstico destes tumores é frequentemente realizado pela técnica da citopatologia. A citologia é utilizada na medicina humana, e mais recentemente reconhecido na medicina veterinária. Embora existam alguns relatos na literatura sobre a especificidade desta técnica, a utilidade da citologia no diagnóstico e caracterização de alguns tipos de tumores tem sido bem estabelecida. A epidemiologia é de grande importância para avaliar a ocorrência destes tumores em animais de pequeno porte. O presente estudo tem como objetivo revisar os diferentes tipos de tumores cutâneos e subcutâneos, mais comumente diagnosticados em cães, e para apresentar as principais características epidemiológicas e citológicas.

Abstract:
Tumors of the skin and subcutaneous tissues are commonly observed in small animal clinical medicine. Diagnosis of these tumors is frequently accomplished using cytopathology. Cytology is widespread in human medicine and recently more recognized in veterinary medicine. Though there are few reports in the literature on the specificity of this technique, the utility of cytology in the diagnosis and characterization of some tumor types has been well established. The epidemiology of cancer is of great importance in assessing the occurrence of these tumors in small animals. The present study aims to review the different types of cutaneous and subcutaneous tumors which are more commonly diagnosed in dogs, and to present their main epidemiological and cytological characteristics.
