UNIDADE DE TERAPIA INTENSIVA E A RELEVÂNCIA DO PAPEL DO ENFERMEIRO NO CUIDADO DE PACIENTES TERMINAIS
No setor de Unidade de Terapia
Intensiva o profissional de enfermagem enfrenta
grandes desafios, dentre eles o cuidado com
pacientes em fase terminal e o contato com os
familiares destes. Zelando pela sua profissão,
o enfermeiro tem papel preponderante na UTI,
cooperando juntamente com a equipe médica
no trato das pessoas que sofrem em seu leito
de enfermidade. A pesquisa é bibliográfica que
fez consultas na base de estudos bibliográficos
da LILACS – Literatura Latino-Americana e do
Caribe em Ciências da Saúde e da ScIELO -
Scientific Electronic Library Online. Esta busca
foi feita no período que corresponde a janeiro
de 2017 até outubro de 2018, utilizando como
descritores: doença, assistência à saúde, morte,
seres humanos, cuidado, doente terminal e
relações profissional-família na busca dentro
da Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde – BVS. E teve
como objetivo maior, fazer uma análise da
relevância que o enfermeiro tem nos cuidados
com pacientes na Unidade de Terapia Intensiva
em estado terminal de vida. Pode-se também
fazer uma observação do cuidado do enfermeiro com o paciente em fase terminal,
buscando assim, identificar as barreiras de comunicação quanto à melhoria dos
cuidados do enfermeiro ao paciente em fase terminal, sempre ponderando as medidas
de enfermagem no apoio ao paciente e à família. O resultado que se chegou após
a leitura dos materiais coletados, é que o cuidar não é um ato único, muito menos
a soma de técnicas ou qualidades humanas, envolve doar-se aos necessitados de
atenção e afeto nos últimos momentos de sua existência.

Abstract:
In the Intensive Care Unit sector, the nursing professional faces major
challenges, such as the care of terminally ill patients and contact with their families.
Looking after his profession, the nurse plays a leading role in the ICU, cooperating
with the medical team in dealing with people who suffer in their sickbed. The research
is a bibliography that has consulted on the basis of bibliographic studies of LILACS -
Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences and of ScIELO - Scientific
Electronic Library Online. This search was done in the period that corresponds to
January 2017 until October 2018, using as descriptors: disease, health care, death,
human beings, care, terminal patient and professional-family relationships in the
search within the Virtual Health Library - VHL. The main objective of this study was
to analyze the relevance of nurses in the care of patients in the Intensive Care Unit
in a terminal state of life. It is also possible to make an observation of the care of the
nurse with the patient in the terminal phase, seeking to identify the communication
barriers regarding the improvement of nursing care to the terminally ill patient, always
pondering the nursing measures in the patient support and the family. The result of
reading the collected materials is that caring is not a single act, much less the sum of
human techniques or qualities, it involves giving oneself to those in need of attention
and affection in the last moments of their existence.
