• Abstract: Citrus farming is one of the main agricultural sectors in the country, the planting and management of this production involves different activities during its production cycle. Some of these activities present physical, chemical and biological risks for workers, such as: working with heavy machinery, cutting equipment, chemical and biological products, venomous animals, among others. In order to ensure the safety and health of rural workers, Regulatory Standard 31 – NR 31 establishes the precepts to be observed in the organization and in the work environment, in addition to providing guidance on the rights and duties of employers and rural workers. Based on this scenario, the objective of this research was to verify the adequacy of the procedures recommended by NR 31 for work in citrus farming, in a production unit located in Vale do Caí in Rio Grande do Sul, an important citrus growing region in the State. The property in question was in compliance with NR 31 in aspects relating to training, qualifications, the use of PPE, the conservation and maintenance of machinery and tools, and the conditions of physical and environmental facilities for workers. However, the storage of pesticides and the maintenance of the property's roads did not comply with NR 31. The work routine of rural properties involves different activities throughout a single day, thus requiring the change of PPE, safety protocols and change of equipment. equipment, this versatility of work sometimes makes work safety control difficult. Therefore, this is a task that must be faced with great responsibility and attention by companies, employers and workers.
