Abstract: Evaluation in the teaching-learning process is a complex system, and has gone through different transformations and ways of being carried out over time. Engineering teachers have implemented evaluation systems according to their knowledge, pedagogical foundation and their training in university didactics; others based on their experiences or replicating the way they were evaluated. The objective is to present a vision of evaluation in the engineering teaching-learning process, based on the teaching experience and foundation of the authors. For this, the phases of the evaluation and the pedagogical models are considered: 1) traditional, 2) behavioral, 3) developmental, and 4) social; the link between learning and assessment; All of the above is aimed at the training of engineers as a profession that is based on the disciplines and their components: 1) technique, 2) science, and 3) technology. Which leads us to the fact that we should not frame engineering education within a traditional model; and where evaluation enters the teaching-learning process, with the main function that corresponds to it: observe, describe, analyze, present alternatives, evaluate, solve, so that comprehensive transformations occur, where the student's significant learning is the center of the process. It culminates with a series of reflections and proposals to incorporate evaluation as a natural entity within the teaching-learning process, where the teacher moves from hetero-evaluation processes towards self-evaluation, and where the student is aware of his or her role within the learning process, which will be for the benefit of their professional performance.
