“Uma Senhora Brasileira em Seu Lar”: representações de leitoras pelos pincéis de Debret
Nas últimas décadas, número considerável de historiadores tem se debruçado sobre as pinturas de Jean-Baptiste Debret relacionadas aos costumes cotidianos e ao mundo do trabalho no Brasil do século XIX. Apesar desta constatação, ainda não se evidenciam, de forma acentuada, investigações no campo da História da Educação que tomem a iconografia referente ao período colonial e início do século XIX, como problemática e/ou fonte de pesquisa. Neste texto, procuraremos tecer um diálogo entre a obra intitulada Uma Senhora Brasileira em Seu Lar de 1823, (onde há a imagem de uma menina lendo) e as discussões sobre as relações estabelecidas pelas mulheres com a cultura escrita. O esforço analítico converge, portanto, em duas direções: problematizar a pintura histórica enquanto fonte de investigação e conformação da memória e refletir sobre práticas de leitura femininas no período estudado.

Abstract:
In the last few decades, a considerable number of historians have studied Jean-Baptiste Debret's paintings related to everyday customs and the world of work in Brazil in the 19th century. Despite this observation, investigations in the field of the History of Education that take the iconography referring to the colonial period and the beginning of the 19th century as a problem and / or source of research are not yet evident. In this text, we will try to weave a dialogue between the work entitled Uma Senhora Brasileira em Seu Lar from 1823, (where there is the image of a girl reading) and the discussions about the relationships established by women with the written culture. The analytical effort converges, therefore, in two directions: to problematize historical painting as a source of investigation and conformation of memory and to reflect on female reading practices in the studied period.
