Abstract: Introduction: Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) can facilitate communication for older adults; however, factors such as hearing loss and difficulties accessing new technologies can hinder this process. Aim: Review of the communicative perception of older adults in institutional and home care contexts, focusing on the relationship between hearing loss, cognition, communicative environment, and the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). Methodology: Narrative literature review of articles published between 2020 and 2025 in the SciELO, PubMed, and LILACS databases, using the controlled descriptors of DeCS/MeSH: hearing loss, communicative processing, home care, and elderly, combined using the Boolean operator “AND”. Results: The findings reinforce that untreated hearing loss is frequently underreported and can be confused with greater cognitive impairment, in addition to contributing to social isolation, depression, and cognitive decline. ICTs proved effective in maintaining family ties, although technological and institutional barriers limit their full use. A gap was identified in the literature regarding standardized instruments that assess the impact of hearing loss on the communication of elderly people in home care, highlighting the urgency of more studies that delve deeper into this topic. Conclusion: Promoting digital inclusion, screening, and adequately managing hearing loss are essential strategies to favor assertive communication, social independence, and the overall well-being of the elderly person, and for this, there is a need to provide additional information on usability.
