Abstract: This chapter addresses the problem of agricultural pests, with a focus on Sitophilus zeamais (corn weevil) and Hypothenemus hampei (coffee berry borer), and their influence on Brazilian agricultural production. Initially, the resistance of these pests to pesticides is highlighted, emphasizing the need for sustainable approaches to control. Brazil, as the leading producer of coffee, is particularly affected, with recent data indicating significant growth in bean production. The text presents details of the morphology and life cycle of both pests, with an emphasis on the damage caused by Sitophilus zeamais in stored beans and by Hypothenemus hampei in coffee plantations. The economic and qualitative impact is discussed, including depreciation of nutritional value, loss of weight in the beans, and devaluation in the coffee market. Highlighting the importance of integrated pest management as a response to these persistent challenges. It emphasizes the need for continuous research and the application of innovative techniques to develop effective control methods aimed at food safety, preserving the quality of agricultural products and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
