Abstract: The issue of climate change has been addressed by scientists for almost two centuries, however, it has been on the global public agenda for just over 40 years. However, there have always been environmental activists, who are sometimes listened to, sometimes not. In the years 2018-2020, the young Swedish activist Greta Thunberg stood out on the global stage, from her school strike for the climate. With the aim of observing whether her speeches have a scientific basis or are opinions, this article carried out a comparative analysis between some of the activist's statements, during her participation in the Conference of the Parties (COP) 24 and 25 and in the Climate Summit, at the headquarters of the United Nations (UN); and studies published by some scientists, as well as official reports. It was concluded that Greta's speeches are based on scientific rigor, coinciding with reports and statements by scientists who have carried out their studies over the years and around the world. Just as your issues are considered relevant in any serious debate on sustainable regional development, as environmental issues connect the local with the global.
