UMA AVENIDA, UMA CIDADE, MUITAS TRANSFORMAÇÕES: JUIZ DE FORA, 1836 – 2016.
A formação do centro urbano da
cidade de Juiz de Fora/MG na região em que se
estabeleceu, deve-se em grande medida à sua
principal via, a avenida Barão do Rio Branco. No
início do século XIX a história da cidade integrase
à formação da avenida e as influências
cidade-avenida passam a ser recíprocas.
Neste artigo apresenta-se um breve histórico
das transformações da cidade e sua avenida
através das principais intervenções ocorridas na
paisagem, espaço e tempo. Tem-se como intuito
a elucidação das relações entre os agentes
dessas transformações e suas interferências no
contexto urbano. O estudo inicia-se em 1836,
data relacionada ao desvio que deu origem a
avenida, estendendo-se até os dias atuais.
Como área de estudo considerou-se a avenida
em toda a sua extensão, aproximadamente seis
quilômetros e cem metros. As transformações
na paisagem e na conformação da avenida
puderam ser observadas em seus diferentes
períodos, visto que ao longo do tempo ela passa
por muitas alterações que tiveram significativo
impacto na paisagem da cidade.

Abstract:
The formation of the urban center
of the city of Juiz de Fora/MG in the region in
which it was established, is largely due to its main
road, of Barão do Rio Branco avenue. At the
beginning of the nineteenth century, the history
of the city was integrated with the formation
of the avenue and the city-avenue influences
became reciprocal. This article presents a brief
history of the transformations of the city and
its avenue through the main interventions in
landscape, space and time.
The aim is to elucidate the relations between
the agents of these transformations and their
interference in the urban context. The study
begins in 1836, date related to the deviation that
gave origin to the avenue, extending until the
present days. As a study area it was considered
the avenue in all its extension, approximately
six kilometers and one hundred meters. The
transformations in the landscape and the
conformation of the avenue could be observed
in its different periods, since over time the
avenue goes through many changes that have
had significant impact in the landscape of the city.
