Abstract: This paper emphasizes the importance of contextualizing the quadratic equation with its historical background to stimulate interest and facilitate learning for 9th-grade students. It explores the equation's history from ancient civilizations (Egypt, Babylonia, Mesopotamia and others) to medieval and modern Europe, acknowledging the contributions of mathematicians such as Bhaskara, Euclid, Tartaglia, Cardano, and Descartes. The paper also describes Descartes' and Leslie's methods for solving quadratic equations, illustrating them with diagrams. Emphasizes that contextualizing mathematics with its history makes it more humanized and interesting, helping students understand its evolution and practical applications. Highlights that the history of the quadratic equation demonstrates how different cultures throughout time have dedicated themselves to solving mathematical problems.
