“Um novo olhar sobre quatro patas: Equoterapia”

• Abstract:

  Equotherapy, according to the

  National Association of Equine Therapy (ANDEBrazil),

  is a therapeutic method that uses the

  horse within an interdisciplinary approach in the

  areas of health, education and riding, seeking

  the biopsychosocial development of people

  with disabilities and / or needs special. This

  therapy is an important tool to be used by health

  and education professionals to achieve therapeutic and educational goals. With the

  intention of bringing the Therapy to a greater number of people, students, administrative

  technicians and professors of the Institute of Agrarian Sciences of the Federal University

  of the Jequitinhonha and Mucuri Valleys (UFVJM), proposed to optimize the existing

  Equine Therapy work in the municipality of Unaí, created by the Association of Parents

  and Friends of the Exceptional (APAE-Unaí). Equine therapy at APAE-Unaí began in

  2007, in a farm located in a neighborhood away from the city, which made it difficult

  for many patients to access. In 2017, after a long period of fundraising, the search for

  donations, the realization of events to acquire the necessary materials for the execution

  of the project, training of staff with ANDE-Brasil, orientation of those involved in animal

  care, in partnership with APAE-Unaí, was implemented at the Institute of Agricultural

  Sciences of UFVJM in Unaí. This allowed the access of more practitioners.
