Abstract: The emergence of a new profile of students, characterized as digital natives, has led education professionals to rethink and adapt teaching methodologies used in the classroom. Gamification has emerged as an alternative approach, aiming to motivate and engage students in the learning process. However, it requires teachers to have prior knowledge of games and their elements in order to achieve effective results. In this paper, we propose a set of guidelines to assist teachers in applying gamification, while ensuring flexibility in choosing which components to gamify. The use of these guidelines was evaluated through two case studies, which indicate that they can be useful in the implementation of gamification.
