Abstract: Background: Exceptional situation is defined by the imbalance between needs and available resources, something increasingly common in the emergency department (ED), negatively impacting persons safety. Objective: To analyze nursing surveillance interventions that promote the safety of individuals in exceptional situations in the ED. Methodology: An integrative literature review conducted following a systematic process according to Toronto & Remington , through searches in the CINAHL and MEDLINE databases, as well as other sources, between June and August 2023. Eligibility criteria were established for the extraction and analysis of the final documents. The quality assessment was carried out following the guidelines of the Joanna Briggs Institute. Results: The six final studies obtained indicate the relevance of surveillance and technology for the early detection of deterioration/risk in individuals in exceptional situations in the ED. Conclusion: The safety of persons in exceptional situations is a sensitive area in nursing care, that require future research specifically associated with overcrowded ED.
