Abstract: Among the psychological practices is the application of psychological instruments that aim to investigate human behavior through the establishment of an interpersonal relationship between therapist and patient. For the construction of the present work, a bibliographical research was carried out with the intention of knowing in the literature how the screening process and the survey of diagnostic hypotheses takes place, as well as, from the practice of care, to carry out the integration of information resulting from the screening and application of instruments, in order to provide a feedback to the patient. Authors' thoughts and ideas were used, guidelines were sought in resolutions developed by the Federal Council of Psychology (CFP) and consultations were carried out with the Psychological Test Assessment System (SATEPSI), in order to verify the technical-scientific quality of psychological instruments before applying them. The present article aimed to identify diagnostic hypotheses through clinical interviews carried out with a patient who is in the phase of the vital cycle of intermediate adult life, from these interviews it is possible to conclude the importance of initial consultations during psychotherapy, in addition to identifying the how essential it is that the psychologist and his patient form a bond of mutual trust and that the professional provides a welcoming environment for his patient.
