Abstract: Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT) has been established as a therapeutic resource in order to provide reconditioning of respiratory muscles with a view to optimizing lung capacities and volumes in patients with loss of muscle strength associated with Invasive Mechanical Ventilation (IMV). The present study sought to identify the influences that IMT can bring to patients in an Adult ICU in relation to time and weaning from IMV. This is an integrative literature review, in which searches were carried out in the PEDro, SciELO, PubMed and Google Scholar databases. It is possible to identify that through IMT it is possible to obtain an improvement in muscular strength and resistance, greater chances of successful weaning, improvement in maximum inspiratory pressure (MIP), respiratory frequency (RR), tidal volume (VT) and respiratory rate rapid and superficial (IRRS). Using TMI with resistive or linear load, which can be a strong ally of intensive respiratory physiotherapy and can assist in the weaning process.
