Abstract: Alopecia is a common dermatological problem that affects a large portion of the population. Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and alopecia areata (AA) are two common types of hair loss, each with its own specific characteristics and treatments. Treatment for AGA includes topical minoxidil, oral finasteride, and hair transplantation, but efficacy is limited. For AA, topical corticosteroids, intralesional corticosteroids, and topical immunotherapies are used, but the response varies. New therapeutic approaches, such as mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), are being studied. The review covered studies published between 1990 and 2023, with specific inclusion criteria. Various treatments, including minoxidil, finasteride, botulinum toxin, topical corticosteroids, and stem cells, among others, were evaluated. Minoxidil was highlighted as a safe and effective treatment for alopecia. Combination therapy was also effective. However, further studies are needed to confirm these results and assess long-term efficacy in larger populations.
