TRATAMENTO ENDODÔNTICO EM DENTES PERMANENTES DE CRIANÇAS E ADOLESCENTES: UMA ABORDAGEM CLÍNICA PELO PROJETO DE EXTENSÃO PEDCA
O tratamento endodôntico de dentes permanentes em crianças e adolescentes pode ser considerado uma ocorrência precoce sendo usualmente provocada por traumas dentais ou por processos cariosos que podem ou não levar à exposição pulpar. A polpa dental jovem apresenta grande capacidade regenerativa, entretanto, a severidade e o tempo com que ocorrem estes danos podem ultrapassar a capacidade de reparo do tecido pulpar causando uma morte lenta deste tecido. Diante dessas agressões, uma intervenção no tecido pulpar pode se fazer necessária tanto em dentes com rizogênese incompleta quanto em dentes completamente formados. A indicação de cada modalidade terapêutica em crianças e adolescentes pode representar um desafio visto que o diagnóstico nesses casos pode ser influenciado pelo aspecto psicológico do paciente. Diante dessa dificuldade, existe uma lacuna entre as especialidades da Endodontia e Odontopediatria para tratar endodonticamente dentes permanentes em pacientes jovens. Dessa forma, o Projeto de Extensão Tratamento Endodôntico em Dentes Permanentes de Crianças e Adolescentes – PEDCA, da Faculdade de Odontologia da Universidade Federal da Bahia, visa contribuir com a sociedade e com a formação de profissionais capacitados a este perfil de procedimento, por meio do atendimento endodôntico a pacientes infantis e púberes com dentes permanentes acometidos por agressões à polpa e ao periodonto, objetivando a prevenção da perda precoce destes elementos dentais.

Abstract:
Endodontic treatment of permanent teeth in children and adolescents can be considered an early occurrence and is usually caused by dental trauma or carious processes that may or may not lead to pulpal exposure. The young dental pulp presents a great regenerative capacity, however, the severity and the time with which these damages occur, can exceed the capacity of repair of the pulp tissue, causing a slow death of this tissue. In the face of these aggressions, an intervention in the pulp tissue may be necessary both in teeth with incomplete rhizogenesis and in fully formed teeth. The indication of each therapeutic modality in children and adolescents can represent a challenge since the psychological aspect of the patient can influence the diagnosis in these cases. Faced with this difficulty, there is a gap between the specialties of Endodontics and Pediatric Dentistry to treat endodontically permanent teeth in young patients. Thus, the Extension Project Endodontic Treatment On Permanent Teeth of Children and Adolescents - PEDCA, from the Faculty of Dentistry of the Federal University of Bahia, aims to contribute to society and to the training of professionals in this profile of procedure, through endodontic care for children and pubertal patients with permanent teeth affected by pulp and periodontal aggression, preventing the loss of these dental elements.
