Abstract: Plastic surgery promotes the treatment of pathologies, traumas and improves the aesthetic aspects of patients through various techniques and procedures that seek to renew the physical and psychological aspects. To do this, the individual undergoes surgical procedures that, consequently, cause scars. A possible complication is keloid, a benign tumor that causes proliferation of fibroblasts, exaggerated production of collagen and involvement of the adjacent skin. As plastic surgery is carried out seeking an aesthetic achievement, it is essential that the result is as close to ideal as possible. Therefore, listing means of treating and preventing keloids is essential. Objective: To analyze articles that study the treatment and prevention of keloids in scars from plastic procedures. Understand the usefulness and feasibility of these treatments. Enable the improvement of surgical technique and medical procedures before and after surgery. Methodology: Articles obtained from searches in virtual databases (PubMed, SCIELO and Google Scholar) were used, using the Science and Health Descriptors “Keloid”; “Plastic surgery”, “Prevention” and “Rehabilitation”, between 2011 and 2022. Results: There are many forms of treatment and prevention of plastic surgery keloids and there is no consensus in the literature about which is the best for the ideal result. Some authors state that patients with more melanin are more likely to develop keloids and that prophylaxis would be more appropriate for them. There are prevention methods, such as the use of a PLDLA dressing and post-surgical radiotherapy, and treatment methods, such as electron beam radiotherapy, intralesional steroid injections and combined or non-combined resection of the keloid. In general, there is a consensus that, when properly indicated, treatment and prophylaxis for keloids in plastic surgery are effective, however, the therapeutic approach interferes with the result. Conclusion: Keloid treatments and prophylaxis in plastic procedures are viable and useful. However, they must be well indicated and developed.
