Abstract: Flavonoids are present in several species of vegetables consumed by humans and are essential in maintaining health and combating diseases and neoplasms. Rutin is one of these natural substances that has significant antitumor potential, especially in aggressive neoplasms, such as glioblasts, which cause death in less than 2 years in the majority of affected people. Objective: The research analyzed data from in vitro and in vivo studies, present on scientific platforms, to verify the antitumor potential of rutin in glioma cells. Materials and Methods: A review of the literature and articles available in the MEDLINE/PubMed and SciVerse Scopus database was carried out from 2014 to 2024. The inclusion criteria included studies covering tumors, neoplasms of the nervous system and flavonoids. The remaining publications were excluded from the analyses. Results: gliomas are classified according to the mutagenic profile they present, they are part of the group of most common and aggressive primary tumors of the nervous system. The treatment of these tumors, particularly the more invasive ones, is not yet completely effective. In this context, rutin demonstrated promise and has adjuvant therapeutic potential to combat these neoplasms, mainly in inducing apoptosis, stopping division and regulating cell metabolism. Conclusion: Studies on glioma cells treated with rutin in vitro demonstrated that it has the promising potential to eliminate tumor units and combat the development of gliomas. Rutin proves to be an alternative for adjuvant therapy to control these tumors.
