Abstract: INTRODUCTION Phimosis is a prevalent condition in children, and the inability to retract the foreskin is a common concern in pediatrics. Although physiological phimosis resolves spontaneously in most cases, the pathological form may require surgical intervention, with circumcision being the most commonly used technique. OBJECTIVES The main objective of this study was to review the various surgical techniques available for the treatment of phimosis in pediatric patients, comparing their indications, efficacy, and postoperative complications. METHODS This is a narrative review. The PubMed, sciELO, and Medline databases were used, as well as the following descriptors: “Phimosis” AND “Pediatric circumcision” OR “Surgical treatment” OR “Postoperative complications” in recent years. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION The analysis of the various surgical techniques, such as plastibell, dorsal clamp, and conventional circumcision, showed success rates above 90%. However, complications such as mild infections, meatal stenosis, and hematomas still occur in a small percentage of cases. Furthermore, the psychological impact of surgery varies with the patient's age, with lower risks in younger children. Minimally invasive techniques have shown promising results and may represent an alternative in the future. CONCLUSION Circumcision is effective in the treatment of pediatric pathological phimosis, with low complication rates when performed appropriately. New minimally invasive techniques offer potential, but further studies are needed. The choice of surgical technique should consider the surgeon's experience, the patient's age, and cultural factors, with postoperative follow-up essential to optimize results.
