Transtorno Global do Desenvolvimento (TGD): A Literature Review

• Abstract: Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD) is a delay observed from early childhood in performing basic functions, including socialization and communication. Since these two factors are fundamental to the daily life of any individual, the present study aims to conduct a bibliographic review on Pervasive Developmental Disorder in order to assess the current state of research on the topic in Brazil. This study is characterized as a bibliographic review with a descriptive approach, seeking to survey the development of research on PDD over the years. The selection of articles was carried out using the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) database. This portal was chosen because it indexes studies in the fields of health and education that are reviewed by scientific committees prior to publication. The inclusion criteria for selecting studies were: articles written in Portuguese, related to the topic, and with no specific publication period defined. After searching the SciELO database, 31 scientific articles were found; however, only 22 articles met the inclusion criteria, as one article was in English, four were duplicates, and four were unrelated to the topic under study. Upon analyzing the selected publications, various themes related to PDD were identified, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), speech therapy approaches to different PDDs, Asperger Syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), among others. Therefore, it is crucial to further study Pervasive Developmental Disorder to improve understanding, diagnosis, treatment, and the quality of life of individuals affected by such disorders.
