Abstract: Population growth and the unplanned urbanization process posed challenges to be overcome. There is no doubt that urban mobility has become a public health issue, since society, as a whole, has suffered irreparable damage caused by the low fluidity of the movement of people and goods. This work aims to present magnetic levitation vehicles (MagLev) as a potential alternative to optimize urban mobility. For this, a bibliographical research was carried out showing the technologies of magnetic levitation to understand the advantages and disadvantages of each technology and compare it with the traditional model of transporting people. Among the existing MagLev technologies, superconducting levitation stands out in relation to the others, since system stability is an intrinsic characteristic of superconductivity, in addition to being more energy efficient. Brazil is in a favorable scientific and technological scenario for the implementation of superconducting MagLev technology, as there is already a full-scale prototype (MagLev-Cobra) demonstrating the country's scientific and technological potential.
