Abstract: The text begins by invoking the iconic 1987 advertising campaign of a São Paulo newspaper, with the slogan "It’s possible to tell a lot of lies by telling only the truth," to criticize how the newspaper, reflecting society, uses selective and questionable truths to spread prejudices, prioritizing vocal groups while silencing minorities such as transgender people. In the development, it analyzes cases like the graffiti “black lives kill”, labeled racist by the newspaper in 2025, contrasting it with the minimization of transphobic insults, despite Direct Action of Unconstitutionality due to Omission (ADO) 26 equating homotransphobia to racism, without exception to truth for slander. It criticizes columnists for calling transphobia “imaginary” and ignoring inconsistencies in judicial decisions, such as the one that victimized Erika Hilton. It laments the lack of transgender voices in the newsroom and draws parallels with the Tom Cotton case at The New York Times, where the paper editorially defended speech without constitutional limits, including various forms of racism. It concludes that the press mirrors an exclusionary society, with a complaint to the ombudsman ignored until the day it was sent to publication, when a timid text appeared, sparking a glimmer of hope against the perpetuation of selective oppression.
