Abstract: Within a Portuguese pluricontinental Monarchy, all overseas connections brought their representativeness when we think about modes of production, commerce, social structures and the confluence of a considerable tangle of interacting cultures. Faced with the sacraments and doctrines of Christianity, whether in the Baptismal Font or in the alliances confirmed on the Altar, we understand that these enslaved individuals witnessed a reconfiguration of their customs and traditions. In an imposed way, as part of a mechanism of social control of these subjects, these new traditions were intended to transform perceptions of spirituality and devotion, bringing with them a broad dogmatic doctrine of customs linked to morality and social practices based on European customs of civility. In this way, our objective will be to discuss the Christian ritual structure as a process of transmutation of the spiritual identification molds and basis of moral conduct of Africans in the legal condition of slavery in the parish of São João Baptista do Presídio. Starting from a methodology of analysis of the parish registers of marriages, selecting in the minutes the subjects that appear in the records as coming from Africa in the period between 1839 and 1845 referring to matrimonial records.
