The Big Ideas in the statistics education of our students: Which ones are the biggest?
Cinco décadas de pesquisa e desenvolvimento curricular sobre o ensino e aprendizagem de estatística produziram muitas recomendações de pesquisadores e organizações nacionais sobre a educação estatística de nossos alunos. Nos últimos dez anos, o trabalho de estatísticos e educadores estatísticos concentrou-se em uma coleção de grandes ideias que são os conceitos e processos mais importantes para desenvolver o pensamento estatístico de nossos alunos, nossa força de trabalho e a alfabetização estatística ao longo da vida de nossos cidadãos. Neste artigo, olho para as raízes das grandes ideias na educação estatística e identifico o que acredito serem as duas ideias abrangentes mais importantes para a educação estatística de nossos alunos à medida que avançam dos anos elementares para o ensino superior. O artigo discute pesquisas sobre o pensamento dos alunos sobre grandes ideias em estatística e apresenta recomendações para o futuro do ensino e da pesquisa no ensino de estatística.

Abstract:
Five decades of research and curriculum development on the teaching and learning of statistics have produced many recommendations from both researchers and national organizations on the statistical education of our students. Within the last ten years work by both statisticians and statistics educators has focused on a collection of big ideas that are the most important concepts and processes to develop the statistical thinking of our students, our work force, and the lifelong statistical literacy of our citizens. In this paper I look back at the roots of big ideas in statistics education and identify what I believe are the two most important overarching ideas for the statistical education of our students as they progress from the elementary years into tertiary. The paper discusses research on student thinking about big ideas in statistics and presents recommendations for the future of teaching and research in statistics education.
