Abstract: Tenofovir and Lamivudine are antiretrovirals widely used in the treatment of HIV due to their effectiveness and safety in suppressing viral load. Both medications belong to the class of nucleoside analogue reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs), they act by inhibiting the essential enzyme so that the viral cycle does not continue, preventing its progression in the body. Their combination has been indicated as first-line therapy, especially in places with restricted access to other antiretrovirals. Studies prove that the joint use of Tenofovir and Lamivudine is effective in maintaining the amount of virus at undetectable levels and preserving immune function, in addition to presenting a favorable safety profile, with minimal side effects and easy management. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the role of these drugs in HIV therapy, analyzing their effectiveness, safety and contribution to the quality of life of people with the HIV virus, complementing the relevance in public health policies aimed at combating the HIV/AIDS epidemic. With the continued improvement of therapies and the integration of innovative approaches, HIV treatment is approaching an era where patients will have more options and a better quality of life.
