Abstract: International trade currently serves as a pillar of the global economy, facilitating the exchange of goods and services between countries and driving global economic growth. However, despite significant advancements in trade processes, the activity still faces challenges such as excessive bureaucracy, high costs, lack of transparency, and regulatory complexity. In recent years, new technologies have emerged as solutions to mitigate these problems. Among them, blockchain and smart contracts stand out as imminent tools to make the export and import process more efficient, cost-effective, and transparent while promoting greater agility in international transactions. This article explores the impact of smart contracts on the security and efficiency of commercial transactions, highlighting their ability to automatically execute pre-established conditions. Cryptographic algorithms can be incorporated to protect against fraud and cyberattacks. Additionally, the study addresses how blockchain technology enhances supply chain management by offering real-time traceability and increasing transparency. The article also analyzed the flexibility of smart contracts, which can be customized and updated in a modular way to meet the diverse needs of international trade without the need for extensive renegotiations.
