Abstract: Digital tools and monitoring systems are technologies that strengthen health surveillance, aiming to improve the detection of health issues, promote patient safety, and support evidence-based decision-making. Objective: To study the contribution of digital tools and monitoring systems to health surveillance and patient safety, focusing on the challenges and advancements within the context of the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS). Materials and Methods: This is an integrative literature review, with the selection of scientific studies from the SciELO and LILACS databases. The guiding question of the research was defined as: "How can digital tools and monitoring systems enhance health surveillance and promote patient safety within the SUS context?". Articles published between 2020 and 2024, in Portuguese and English, were included. Results and Discussion: Six scientific articles were included in this review. The analysis identified that digital tools (such as integrated systems and predictive models) strengthen health surveillance, enabling faster detection of health threats and evidence-based decision-making. However, challenges persist, including system fragmentation, regional disparities in technological infrastructure, and political barriers. Conclusion: Digital technologies show promise for enhancing health surveillance in SUS (Unified Health System), but require greater system integration and investments in training to fully realize their potential.
