Abstract: This chapter analyzes low-cost assistive technology (AT) modalities developed in the fields of education and health, emphasizing the processes of design, implementation, and resignification for people with disabilities (PwD). The methodology comprises a qualitative systematic literature review, with an exhaustive search in SciELO and PubMed databases between 2013 and 2024. The results reveal a diversity of solutions ranging from PVC adaptations and recyclable materials to robotic systems and digital tools based on artificial intelligence. The critical analysis demonstrates that collaborative development, personalization, and replicability are fundamental pillars for the effectiveness of these technologies. It is concluded that low-cost AT acts as a vector of equity, promoting functional autonomy and social inclusion by challenging market paradigms and strengthening technical-social mediation in rehabilitation and schooling contexts.
