Abstract: The Theater of the Oppressed, created by Brazilian playwright Augusto Boal in the 1970s, uses theater as a tool for dialogue, empowerment, and social transformation. It is a methodology that is linked to the thinking of Paulo Freire, as it suggests transformations for life in society that help break down social barriers. The Theater of the Oppressed is also related to Freire's experiences, based on its liberating practices, as it aims to liberate the oppressor through the dialogic process and the Pedagogy of the Oppressed. The Theater of the Oppressed foresees the use of theatrical techniques that favor imagination and creativity, strong elements of theatrical action, enabling participants to integrate a humanistic and collective approach in supporting mental health. The objective of this article was to discuss the potential of the Theater of the Oppressed in the area of mental health as a tool for emotional support and social transformation. Methodology: This is a theoretical-reflective study on the Theater of the Oppressed and its contributions to mental health, based on the discussions of Augusto Boal and the propositions of theorist Paulo Freire.
