Abstract: Introduction: In recent decades, the life expectancy of the world's population has increased, reaching in 2014 the global average of approximately 70 and 80 years in developed countries. Supplementation with creatine has a wide range of benefits for the elderly, including being associated with the practice of physical activity, which contributes to an improvement in the functional status and health of this population. Objective: Starting from the complex purpose of detailing and understanding the functionality of creatine in the elderly, this study aims to investigate and analyze the benefits of creatine supplementation in functional capacity, physical performance and muscle mass gain in healthy elderly people. Method: This study is an integrative review of the literature on the benefits of creatine supplementation in the elderly. Results and Discussion: Creatine supplementation during resistance training increased upper and lower body strength compared with resistance training alone (placebo). There were no differences between pre- and post-exercise creatine supplementation. Conclusion: Although creatine is one of the most studied dietary supplements, there are still some open questions to be explored, especially in the elderly, such as responsiveness.
