SUICÍDIOS NOTICIADOS EM JORNAIS ANTIGOS DA REGIÃO DE DIAMANTINA - MINAS GERAIS
O suicídio está diretamente ligado
a um caráter revelador de complexas relações
sociais e pessoais, envolvendo o sentido da
vida em sociedade. Dessa maneira, abranger
o suicídio através de uma conjugação humana
de fatores individuais, ambientais e sociais
é compreender o que pode influenciar esse
comportamento autodestrutivo. O objetivo do
estudo foi refletir sobre os aspectos ideológicos
que envolvem o suicídio e a relação suicídio
e os meios de comunicação. Trata-se de um
estudo documental, histórico e descritivo de
abordagem qualitativa. O local de estudo foi
a Biblioteca Antônio Tôrres pertencente ao
Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico
Nacional (IPHAN). Foram selecionados os
jornais do primeiro decênio do século XX (1901-
1910), tomando como base os jornais: “Idéa
Nova”, “A Diamantina”, “O Itambé. É possível
perceber que naquela época, os redatores
não se preocupavam em ocultar os casos de
suicídios nos jornais; pelo contrário, essas
notícias eram de certa forma, colocadas em
evidência por meio de títulos em destaque.

Abstract:
Suicide is directly linked to a
revealing character of complex social and
personal relationships, involving the meaning
of life in society. In this way, to encompass
suicide through a human conjunction of
individual, environmental and social factors
is to understand what can influence this selfdestructive
behavior. The purpose of the study
was to reflect on the ideological aspects that
involve suicide and the relation suicide and
the media. It is a documentary, historical and
descriptive study of a qualitative approach.
The study site was the Antônio Tôrres Library
belonging to the National Historical and Artistic
Heritage Institute (IPHAN). The newspapers
of the first decade of the 20th century (1901-
1910) were selected, based on the newspapers:
“Idéa Nova”, “A Diamantina”, “O Itambé. It is
possible to realize that at that time, the editors
did not bother to hide the suicide cases in the
newspapers; on the contrary, this news was in a
way brought to the fore by prominent titles.
