Abstract: Waste management is one of the main challenges faced by many cities around the world. In Brazil, the problem is even more pronounced, especially in densely populated urban areas. The Caixa da Água neighborhood, for example, is located in the city of Olinda in Pernambuco, it is a region that faces serious socioeconomic and environmental problems, with solid waste management being one of the most serious problems. This work aims to contribute to the adequate management of urban solid waste in the neighborhood, with the aim of minimizing possible environmental impacts generated in the community and minimizing the generation of gases responsible for the greenhouse effect, as well as providing opportunities to generate income for the local population through recycling and reusing waste. A diagnosis of the neighborhood's household collection itinerary was carried out, followed by a mapping of the region under study to address possible improvements in local waste management. The heterogeneity of the neighborhood and its spatial conflicts impose the need to incorporate production networks and new technologies into urbanization processes as fundamental aspects in defining goals that guarantee sustainability as one of the requirements for a better quality of life in the built environment.
