Abstract: Aedes aegypti mosquitoes are highly successful worldwide culicids, currently serving as the primary vector for arboviruses. Various strategies are employed to control this species in order to reduce the transmission of viruses such as dengue, chikungunya, and Zika. However, despite the efforts put forth, outbreaks of these diseases continue to occur in tropical regions. Thus, this research aimed to conduct a literature review on the main control methods for Ae. aegypti, with a primary focus on biocontrol tools. To achieve this, searches were conducted using keywords in environmental sciences and health sciences, on databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. It was possible to understand that despite the increase in the development of new technologies against this vector, none of the options have proven to be effective in the long term when used in isolation. Therefore, the population decline of Ae. aegypti mosquitoes increasingly depends on the principles of integrated control, and the use of botanical insecticides has shown promise in this context.
