STANFORD'S INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE: AN ANALYSIS OF SOCIAL INFLUENCE AND POWER RELATIONSHIPS IN BEHAVIOR
O objeto de estudo deste artigo foi o experimento de aprisionamento de Stanford, coordenado pelo professor Philip Zimbardo. O objetivo foi analisar esse experimento a partir de conceitos da Psicologia Social. Especificamente optamos por: assistir ao filme documental, avaliar especialmente a partir dos conceitos de influência social e poder. Metodologicamente o trabalho configura como pesquisa bibliográfica assumindo como referências Fischer e Vauclair (2011); Günther (2011); Tróccoli (2011) e Torres e Neiva (2011). Os resultados indicam que os participantes internalizaram seus papéis, seja o sadismo no caso dos guardas, seja a revolta ou submissão no caso dos detentos. A situação de aprisionamento e falta de sono, as humilhações, evocaram reações intensas para poucos dias de estudo. De modo, que o experimento foi encerrado num prazo muito menor que o planejado. Embora o experimento tenha recebido críticas severas, hoje existe a percepção da importância de suas descobertas. Vemos que o entorno tem influência sobre o comportamento humano e que pessoas “boas”, quando inseridas em lugares ruins podem agir como pessoas ruins ou que se resignem a ser maltratadas. Para o Estado, o investimento para entender as origens dos conflitos no sistema prisional, os comportamentos manifestos, a construção de papéis também é extremamente válida.

Abstract:
The object of study of this article was the Stanford imprisonment experiment, coordinated by Professor Philip Zimbardo. The objective was to analyze this experiment from concepts of Social Psychology. Specifically, we opted for: watching the documentary film, evaluating especially from the concepts of social influence and power. Methodologically, the work is configured as a bibliographic research, taking as references Fischer and Vauclair (2011); Gunther (2011); Tróccoli (2011) and Torres and Neiva (2011). The results indicate that the participants internalized their roles, whether sadism in the case of guards, or revolt or submission in the case of detainees. The situation of imprisonment and lack of sleep, the humiliations, evoked intense reactions for a few days of study. So, the experiment was terminated in a much shorter period than planned. Although the experiment received severe criticism, today there is a perception of the importance of its findings. We see that the environment influences human behavior and that “good” people, when placed in bad places, can act like bad people or who resign themselves to being mistreated. For the State, the investment to understand the origins of conflicts in the prison system, the manifest behaviors, the construction of roles is also extremely valid.
