Abstract: This paper presents and evaluates the Nature-Based Solution (NBS) called Constructed Wetlands (WC), as a sanitary system for treating domestic sewagegenerated in the residence of the Tainhas State Park (PET). The PET is a Conservation Unit(UC), with an area of 6000ha, located in the rural area of the municipalities of Jaquirana, SãoFrancisco de Paula and Cambará do Sul in the state of Rio Grande do Sul (RS), Brazil. TheUC is managed by the State Secretariat of Environment and Infrastructure (SEMA) of the stateof RS. In the PET there is a single-family residence with 497m2 used by SEMA as supportfor activities in the park. The residence has 42 beds distributed in 10 dormitories serving asaccommodation for these activities. The system is designed to serve 73 people with unitarycontributions relative to a low generation standard (50L.d-1 and 25 gDBO5.d-1), totaling 3650L.d-1 (or ≈ 4 m3.d-1) of sewage with a total organic rate of 1825 gDBO.d-1. The treatment ofdomestic sewage from the residence was dimensioned considering the Brazilian standards (NBR’s) in force at the time of the development of the work, namely: NBR’s nº 8160/1999(preliminary treatment - grease trap), nº 7229/1993 (primary treatment - septic tank) and nº 13969/1997 (secondary treatment - anaerobic filter). The extraordinary bulletin published bythe Wetlands Brasil group in 2018 was used to design the tertiary treatment system with WC.It is worth noting that, in April 2024, a new NBR (nº 17076/2024) was published, which dealswith the design of preliminary, primary, secondary and tertiary treatment systems. As a futureperspective, the aim is to gather the materials and labor necessary for the construction of thesanitary system in PET. After this, the environmental monitoring stage begins to evaluate thesystem’s performance.
