Abstract: The development of transdermal formulations is an interesting strategy for the transport of different classes of drugs, both hydrophilic and lipophilic, representing an alternative to overcome aspects related to the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic characteristics of several drugs when used by other routes. The present study aims to address, through a literature review, the most used transdermal systems and which pathologies use these formulations most. Data were obtained through a search in the databases (MEDLINE/PubMed®), VHL (Virtual Health Library) and Sciense Direct (Elsevier) via the CAPES portal, using the following descriptors, (Drug Administration Routes) AND (Transdermal delivery) AND (Pathology). In the researched articles, the matrices used for drug delivery ranged from ethosomas, transetosomes, lipid nanoparticles, nanogel, microneedles used alone or in combination, with the strategy of improving administration and increasing drug release. The technology of transdermal systems currently studied uses methods that increase the permeability of drugs through the skin, and the application of these systems in the treatment of various pathologies becomes an alternative to improve therapeutic effectiveness.
