Abstract: This work presents the development of a low-power, autonomous photovoltaic system designed to meet basic lighting needs in rural communities without access to the electrical grid, demonstrating how solar energy can become a technologically and socially relevant solution in southeastern Mexico. The project was structured in three stages: the energy design of the system, where generation and storage requirements were calculated; the assembly of a portable prototype integrating photovoltaic panels, a controller, a battery, an inverter, and LED lights, prioritizing safety and ease of implementation; and experimental evaluation under real-world conditions, through charge and discharge tests, direct operation of the panels, and verification of the inverter's performance at different voltage ranges. The results demonstrated efficient, stable, and technically viable operation for powering low-power lighting loads, and also underscored the educational and social value of renewable energies as a tool that connects engineering students to real-world problems in the region and contributes to the well-being and energy independence of rural communities in Campeche.
