Abstract: Takotsubo Syndrome is characterized by left ventricular dysfunction, of a transient nature, its clinical picture mimics acute coronary syndrome, still little known and underdiagnosed, it mostly affects women and its pathophysiological process is not well understood. study based on literature review using scientific articles, published electronically, addressing the topic of takotsubo syndrome. OBJECTIVE: to verify its relationship with acute myocardial infarction, verify the prevalence of the disease in relation to sex and age group, understand how this syndrome is triggered and demonstrate its triggering factors. METHODS: bibliographic survey, carried out from January 2007 to May 2016; availability of them in full and in Portuguese, thus constituting a sample of 33 articles. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: The analysis of the articles shows that takotsubo syndrome is still an underdiagnosed, little-known disease, which has received greater attention and notoriety in recent years due to its higher incidence, the prevalence occurs in post-menopausal females, suggests a relationship with the decrease in estrogen in women, it corresponds to around 2% of cases of coronary syndrome that arrive at the emergency room and is closely related to stress and systemic arterial hypertension, and its diagnosis cannot be ruled out in patients who arrive at the emergency room with a condition suggestive of acute coronary syndrome and especially if it was triggered by a stressful event.
