• Abstract: Objective: This paper discusses feelings and aspects related to retirement, seeking understanding within the scope of the authors about the physical and emotional repercussions of this moment in people's lives. Methods: Bibliographical review based on Scielo, Lilacs and VHL databases. Results: Of a total of 40 articles, only 8 fit the proposed objectives. It is known that ageing is a process that brings changes that impact on quality of life, and retirement is one of them. Despite the significant number of articles found, the approach often permeates points related to emotions and feelings, making the selection restricted and justified by the repeated interpellations. Conclusion: Considering the emotions associated with each person's individual view of this process, there are changes in routine, environment, responsibilities and financial standards, among others, which can bring benefits or harms, depending on life planning and the meaning given to this moment by each person.
