SEGREGAÇÃO E PERIFERIA: A EXPRESSIVIDADE DA COMUNIDADE DO TIMBÓ EM JOÃO PESSOA-PB
O processo de crescimento das
cidades brasileiras ocorreu de forma acelerada
e excludente, como é sabido. Em consequência,
as cidades contemporâneas traduzem as
mais diversas problemáticas urbanas. Nesse
contexto, na cidade de João Pessoa não foi
diferente, seu crescimento espraiado acarretou
uma segregação socioespacial que se reflete
em toda a cidade. A esse respeito, este trabalho
pretende demonstrar a realidade segregada
vivenciada na Comunidade do Timbó - em
João Pessoa-PB - sob os aspectos sociais,
configuracionais e de infraestrutura. No Timbó,
a população vive em condições sub-humanas
marcadas pela precariedade das moradias
e dos espaços públicos. A pesquisa apoiouse
enquanto método no estudo do caso e
dividiu-se em etapas: embasamento teórico e
conceitual; pesquisa documental em órgãos
competentes e a sistematização e análise
das informações. Após o desenvolvimento
da pesquisa pode-se afirmar que o Timbó
é segregado sócio e espacialmente devido
às condições as quais os seus moradores
estão expostos. Afirma-se ainda que a própria
configuração interna da comunidade expressa
os níveis de precariedade presentes no local.
Apesar de toda a problemática exposta e de sua
localização margear bairros de classe média e
alta, a comunidade é relegada ao descaso do
poder público que através da sua ineficiência
política veta a integridade do acesso ao direito
à cidade.

Abstract:
The process of growth of
Brazilian cities occurred in an accelerated and
exclusive way, as is known. As a consequence,
contemporary cities translate the most diverse
urban problems. Within this context, in the city
of João Pessoa was no different, its spread
growth brought with it a strong sociospatial
segregation that is reflected throughout the city.
In this regard, this paper intends to demonstrate
the segregated reality experienced in the
Timbó Community - located in the Bairro dos
Bancários, in João Pessoa-PB - under the
social, configurational and infrastructure aspects. In Timbo, the population lives in
subhuman conditions marked by precariousness of housing, public space, unsanitary,
lack of spaces for sociability and high constructive and population density. To carry out
the research were adopted some methodological procedures supported in the study
of the case and divided into stages: theoretical and conceptual background; document
research in competent bodies and the systematization and analysis of information. After
the development of the research, it can be stated that the Timbó is segregated socially
and spatially due to the conditions in which its residents are exposed. It is also stated
that the internal configuration of the community expresses the levels of precariousness
present in the local. Despite all the problems exposed and its location hem middle
and upper class neighborhoods, the community is relegated to the indifference of the
government that through its policy inefficiency vetoes the integrity of access to the right
to the city.
