Abstract: Childhood obesity is a global public health concern, impacting children's health and well-being and increasing the incidence of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease. The current factors that most contribute to the rise in childhood obesity are lack of physical activity and excessive screen time. This article reviews the evidence on sedentary lifestyles, exacerbated by excessive screen time (phone, computer, tablet, video game) and how these directly influence the rise in childhood overweight. The analysis includes studies on the effects of lack of physical activity in childhood, the relationship between the consumption of ultra-processed foods and screen time, and strategies to moderate these effects. The conclusion is that sedentary lifestyles and excessive screen time are predisposing factors for childhood obesity and that measures need to be taken to promote quality of life for the population from an early age, so that they do not develop preventable health problems in the future.
