• Abstract: Introduction: The mental health of health professionals has become a growing concern given the intense physical, emotional, and ethical demands imposed by daily work. Objective: to analyze, through the literature, the main challenges faced by health professionals in relation to their mental health, identify the risk and protective factors associated with mental illness, and discuss coping and care strategies that can be incorporated into institutional practices. Methods: This is a literature review, with the search for national and international studies carried out in the BVS/MEDLINE and PubMed databases, published from 2021 to December 2024, in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Results: 8,600 titles were found and four studies were selected. The main factors that contribute to the mental illness of these workers, such as work overload, pressure for productivity, scarcity of resources, and ethical distress related to care. Conclusion: The results provide relevant information for investment in mental health in the workplace, which is essential to ensure more humanized, ethical, and effective care.
