• Abstract: Public Health is an interdisciplinary and multi-paradigmatic field that covers topics such as social medicine, health and psychiatric reforms, the Unified Health System (SUS), epidemiology and the education of health professionals. This work aims to encourage a critical discussion about Public Health, exploring its current perspectives and challenges in Brazil. The research is organized into three main topics: the field of Public Health in Brazil, the health reform movement and the Unified Health System, and the current perspectives and challenges in health in Brazil. It is concluded that the aim of Public Health is to promote a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon of human life in relation to the health-disease process, seeking to achieve high levels of health and well-being in populations. Despite the progress made, there are still numerous challenges and goals to be achieved in health in Brazil, requiring continuous reflection on the practices and policies implemented.
