Abstract: Objective: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between muscle loss and reduced bone density, highlighting the importance of preventive interventions such as muscle strengthening and physical activity in preserving musculoskeletal health in older adults. Methods: The research was conducted through an integrative literature review, with a search for articles in the PubMed and CAPES Portal databases, using the descriptors “aged,” “sarcopenia,” “osteoporosis,” and “bone density,” combined with the boolean operator "and." Studies published between 2022 and 2025, available in Portuguese or English, were included, while duplicate articles or those that did not directly address the topic were excluded. Results: The findings highlighted that sarcopenia and osteoporosis share physiological and metabolic factors contributing to their joint progression, increasing the risk of falls and fractures. Additionally, chronic inflammation, hormonal changes, and nutritional deficiencies accelerate the degradation of muscle and bone mass. The literature demonstrated that interventions based on muscle strengthening and resistance exercise, combined with adequate nutrition, play a crucial role in preserving musculoskeletal health and reducing the incidence of osteosarcopenia. Final Considerations: In conclusion, the results reinforce the need for effective preventive strategies and a multidisciplinary approach to minimize the impacts of musculoskeletal loss, promoting healthier aging and reducing the risks associated with sarcopenia and osteoporosis.
