SÃO PAULO – UMA CIDADE NO PROCESSO DE SEGREGAÇÃO SOCIOCULTURAL E URBANÍSTICO NO INÍCIO DO SÉCULO XX
Esse texto traz importantes informações demográficas, urbanísticas e sociológicas sobre o processo de crescimento populacional e urbano na cidade de São Paulo entre o final do século XIX e as primeiras décadas do século XX. Nesse período, com a vinda massiva dos imigrantes europeus, especialmente dos italianos, mesclando-se com a população brasileira de maioria negra e mestiça, confrontavam-se pela sua sobrevivência, concorrendo pelas vagas de trabalho e de moradias. Esse crescimento demográfico tornou-se desordenado devido à deficiência estrutural da cidade para agregarem essa população. As reformas urbanísticas do inicio do século XX mostravam a politica segregacionista dos governos republicanos, demolindo os cortiços e expulsando suas populações para periferias, mostrando que o desenvolvimento urbano se desenhava através de interesses das classes dominantes.

Abstract:
This text provides important demographic, urban and sociological information about the process of population and urban growth in the city of São Paulo between the end of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century. During this period, with the massive arrival of European immigrants, especially Italians, mixing with the Brazilian population of black and mestizo majority, they faced each other for their survival, competing for jobs and housing. This demographic growth became disorderly due to the city's structural deficiency to aggregate this population. The urban reforms of the beginning of the 20th century showed the segregationist policy of republican governments, demolishing the tenements and expelling their populations to the peripheries, showing that urban development was designed through the interests of ruling class
