Abstract: There are many problems in Brazilian legal education that have already been reported by others authors. The lack of practical experiences throughout the student's education, the massification of content dogmatics, the lack of responses from the law itself to social demands, the mass opening of new law schools, among others. After overcoming the listing problems phase, this article seeks to think over the major gap in the curriculum of legal education. The matter focused on the question that opens the title of the work, after all, “do we know where we come from?”. Does legal education in Brazil prioritize professional propaedeutic training? To develop the work, qualitative research was used based on documentary analysis of the provisions established by Resolution No. 5, of December 17th, 2018, of the National Education Council (legislation that establishes the National Curricular Guidelines for the Undergraduate Course in Law), the Law curriculum of Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS) and the Pedagogical Project of Fundação Escola Superior do Ministério Público (FMP/RS)'s Law school, all documents in the public domain. From reading these three documents, we sought to establish a relationship between the contents, disciplines and thematic axes of the Law Courses and the statement contained in the title of the work: “the apparent gap in the study of legal propaedeutics”. The fact is that the dialogue between “law knowledge” and other “knowledge” that would contemplate a humanist formation with greater possibilities of assimilation of contexts, social, historical and even cultural, does not occur as a necessary and systemic practice.
